Do you want a candy?

Mini Viva makes it three out of three. "One Touch", originally and craptastically titled "Do You Want A Candy?", is the third single from Frankee Connolly and Britt Love. It's the follow-up to "I Wish" which inexplicably crashed out at a lowly #73 in the UK singles chart at the back end of last year.

Note to record labels... New acts should not release the follow up to a top 10 hit in the crowded, Christmas market. You can thank me for that marketing nugget later. FYI... I like to paid in large bills. Kthx!

Let's hope "One Touch" lights the charts on fire, kittens. This is chunky, ass shaking, pop with a hint of classic Stock Aitken Waterman about it. Mini Viva even LOOK like they could've been a PWL confection. And I love how they rip into a little Lady Gaga inspired vamp at the end of the chorus.

The song itself made me think of this 80s jammy jam from Siedah Garrett.

  1. One Touch is a much better title, though I keep confusing it with One Shot a song title used recently by both JLS and The Saturdays. This is better than both those songs though and I am already learning the dance routine :P

  2. I never knew two things: That Siedah Garrett did this sort of stuff in the 80s, and that 'Do You Want It Right Now?' was Siedah Garrett!

These two things have collided in my universe and created a fantastic explosion of electronic rare groove goodness resulting in me dancing round my house in my pants.

Good stuff, and thank you for the music Vinny.

PS. I have to wait until the autumn for the Mini Viva??!!! WHY?

  3. @Jams - My pleasure. Service with a smile! :)

I love it when musical worlds collide. It's like finding hidden treasure. Or a cash in your pocket after your trousers have been in the wash.

Not sure what is going on with Mini Viva. Autumn seems a long way to wait for the full album. I originally saw it on the decks for May/June.

  4. I can't get enough of these two gals...

This song has really stretched and broadened their demographic. Previously it just made us smile because it was damn good pop and now we're drawing parallels to Siedah Garrett (and Qwest Records).

    I love it.

It's been a while, but I'm back Vin. Hope all is well and everybody has a great weekend.

ps. In addition to Mini Viva, Polydor has been putting out some WICKEDLY DISGUSTING stuff. Speaking of the Qwest (cough-cough Factory) Records/Madchester/shoegaze sound, check out Polydor's Chapel Club (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6Vfjjwgv6c). One would think they were listening to Morrissey and The Smiths.

  6. Yes! Lady Gaga indeed.

I love their hips (point to hips),lips (point to lips), fashion status (strike a pose) dance routine. I love literal interpretations of pop songs with lots of heart shaped hands, beating hearts, pointing at 'you' and pointing at your eye for 'I' etc etc.... Helps you learn the lyrics AND doesn't require six years at dance college.

  7. @tea lady - Firstly, I *points index finger at eye* love *heartshaped hands over heart* your handle! Tea lady sounds super English.

Secondly, your assessment of pop is spot on. A few hand gestures go a long way! *two thumbs up waving*
