Do you want a candy?

Mini Viva makes it three out of three. "One Touch", originally and craptastically titled "Do You Want A Candy?", is the third single from Frankee Connolly and Britt Love. It's the follow-up to "I Wish" which inexplicably crashed out at a lowly #73 in the UK singles chart at the back end of last year.

Note to record labels... New acts should not release the follow up to a top 10 hit in the crowded, Christmas market. You can thank me for that marketing nugget later. FYI... I like to paid in large bills. Kthx!



Let's hope "One Touch" lights the charts on fire, kittens. This is chunky, ass shaking, pop with a hint of classic Stock Aitken Waterman about it. Mini Viva even LOOK like they could've been a PWL confection. And I love how they rip into a little Lady Gaga inspired vamp at the end of the chorus.

The song itself made me think of this 80s jammy jam from Siedah Garrett.

when you wish upon a star

Perky, UK duo, Mini Viva, have returned with another poptastic track. "I Wish" is the fabulous follow up to their debut single, "Left My Heart In Tokyo", which peaked at #7 in the UK singles charts just a few short months ago.

Something about them reminds me of Mel & Kim. The song has shades of the more languid and lovely moments from Pet Shop Boys. It must be the Xenomania production and its close proximity to the release of the PSB album, "Yes". And for no reason in particular, I'm reminded of "Too Many Walls" by Cathy Dennis. Dare I mention that it even sounds like something I might write?

Frankee Connolly and Britt Love were whooshed off to sunny LA where they lensed a video for their latest single.



Super cute and Crayola colorful! But did they need to fly to LA for it just to walk around the city to shoot a video? Surely they could have done this closer to home?

Get that album out soon, ladies!

look who's getting fresh

I feel like I just snorted an entire bottle of amyl nitrate. ZING!

Pete Hammond took "Left My Heart In Tokyo" by Mini Viva, a reasonably decent single, and swizzled it into an amazing, retro, dance around your handbag, floor filler.

There's a joke about Pink Lady in here someone. Don't bother me, kid. Ask your parents!

Remember how Cliviles & Cole were brilliant at pulling influences from different "classic", "old school", disco records and refashioning them into amazing pop nuggets? Pete's back and he's got that same knack. Take a listen to "Showing Out (Get Fresh At The Weekend" by Mel & Kim.



All that missing in the Mini Viva remix is that wicked, whip sound. And by the way, it doesn't look like Pete's mix is going to be made commercially available. Someone shoot me. Time to fire up the interwebs for a search.
