In a surprise move, it appears Sony are going to release a FIFTH single from Hurts' debut longplayer, "Happiness". Is this 1985?
"Illuminated" is scheduled to be released as a double a-side with "Better Than Love" at the beginning of May. You might recall that "Better Than Love" was the first, official single from Theo and Adam.
Sadly, upon first release, "Better Than Love" could only manage a lacklustre placing on the UK singles chart at #50. Honestly, the mixes weren't terribly exciting. However, fresh from their blinding reswizzling of Hurts' "Wonderful Life", Freemasons are having a go at "Better Than Love" along with Death In Vegas and Burns.
Now, let's step it up a notch, lads. Issue that Paul Van Dyk remix of "Sunday" and you will have a blindingly good single on your hands. If not that, at least put together one of those deluxe editions of the album that the labels are so fond of throwing out to a disinterested public. I would actually purchase that one! Make it happen!

...huh. I hate to make the obvious crack about Theo and Adam having compromising photos of somebody, but fifth singles are pretty atypical in any era, aren't they? Usually those albums are selling truckloads or at least the singles are (q.v., Good Girl Gone Bad/Teenage Dream), so this is more than a little surprising. Especially since they were given the budget for a separate Christmas single and video to boot.
ReplyDeleteNot that I'm not thrilled they're getting additional push, I just don't quite know what to make of it.
i'm sort of loving that Hurts are releasing so many singles from this album. It's almost becoming their Erasure -Wonderland in that they keep releasing tracks from it and none are bona-fide massive hits yet i think when more success comes in the future, fans will relish this debut album.
ReplyDeleteCan I even remember the last time an album had five singles pulled from it? Hmmm. Four seems to be the limit for a lot of really successful albums I can remember. Only superstars ever seemed to get that treatment; your Michael Jackson/Bruce Springsteen/Prince/Madonna ilk. Of that shortlist I could only tolerate Prince. "Purple Rain" had five singles: When Doves Cry, Let's Go Crazy, Purple Rain, I Would Die For U, and Take Me With U. Of course, it sold bucketloads! How did Hurts manage this?
ReplyDeleteshame that the magnificent marsheaux remix of better than love didnt make it on to the single nor the italo connection disco version, which is equally as excellent.
ReplyDeleteVinny, I'm loving the Freemasons Mix of "Better Than Love". And since I missed this song the first time around, it's like a brand new track to me! Thank you to the anonymous poster above who suggested the Italoconnection Remix. I found that one online and it's quite good—better than the Marsheaux version IMO. This song's been on heavy rotation at my place for the last week or so. Better late than never. :-)
ReplyDelete@334578 - Glad to hear it! That's one reason why I started this blog. People need to turn each other on to new music. Service with a smile! :)
ReplyDeleteThe Italoconnection mix is great. Shame its not on the new Deluxe Happiness which Vinny predicted above.
